Sessions for Parents & Educators

The Association’s Children & Adolescents Committee creates several education opportunities for parents and school professionals to learn more about the unique issues faced by school-aged children and adolescents who have sustained brain injuries.

Spring and Fall Sessions

Each fall and spring, the Association offers a free educational session for parents and educators. Past topics covered in these sessions include Assistive Technology for Students with Brain Injury, A Sibling’s Response to Brain Injury, and Making Sense of the Individualized Education Program (IEP) Meeting for Students with Brain Injury.

Fall 2009 Session: Brain Injury Basics for Parents and School Professionals

    The Brain Injury Association of New Jersey is an approved provider of Professional Development Hours through the New Jersey Department of Education (#2782). Professional Development Hour certificates will be provided at each session.

    Online Course for School Professionals

    The Brain Injury Association of New Jersey and Rutgers Continous Education have partnered to develop an online course which provides information about working with students with brain injury.  Upon successful completion of the course New Jersey educators will receive 10 professional development hours approved by the New Jersey Department of Education. 

    The course is free, and includes sections on What is Brain Injury?; How Does Brain Injury Affect Learning?; and Recognizing and Addressing Cognitive Issues in the Classroom.
